In June 2022, a revised version of Approved Document L came into force, divided into:
Volume 1: Dwellings
Volume 2: Buildings other than dwellings
This update introduced significant changes to reduce carbon emissions by 31% for new buildings. These changes impact multiple aspects of energy efficiency, including insulation, fuel types, and air tightness, as part of the roadmap to the Future Homes Standard in 2025.
Key Changes in Air Tightness Requirements:
- Mandatory Testing: Every unit must be tested – no sampling allowed.
- Tighter Standards: Maximum air permeability reduced from 10 m³·h⁻¹·m⁻² @50Pa to 8 m³·h⁻¹·m⁻² @50Pa.
- New Testing Standard: Testing now follows CIBSE TM23 guidelines.
